FieldLink: Align and Move
The main steps shown in the video are outlined below:
Step 1: Create a new job for your project inside of FieldLink
Step 2: Log in to Trimble Connect to access your cloud hosted project files. If you don’t have your reference files/drawings saved to a project in Connect you can skip to Step 3.
Step 3: Import your project reference drawings via the Connect “Cloud” feature inside of FieldLink. You could also import your files via a USB drive or another cloud based data storage application to the Jobs folder for FieldLink.
For help on importing files via Trimble Connect inside of FieldLink please visit our Knowledge Base article that outlines the detailed steps involved in this process and can be found by following this link. Trimble Connect for Field Link
Step 4: Inspect your background files. Establish which file will be used as the base for the layout points on the project and which file will be required to move to overlay the base file. The base file should contain control points that are tied to either a X,Y.Z or N,E,Z coordinate system.
Once you have established the file to use as your project base hide the other file visually in the view. You can then zoom in to the base file and create 2 points with each one being at a known control location. Use the ruler tool to measure between the two created points to find the angle between the points that will be used to adjust the alignment angle of your other background file that needs to move. If you need help creating the known points and measuring for for the angle or azimuth between the points see the Knowledge Base article that specially addresses finding an angle between known locations. Be sure to write down the measured azimuth as you will need the angle to transform your other file.
Step 5: Now that you have two known points with their location information and the angle between them you can transform your other file by updating the same points in that file to the project control information.
Create two new points on your file that is to move using the same location as the control points in your base file relative to the building (grid, corners, building edges, etc.).
Once the points are created you can go in to the edit point command and update the new points to match the known control point coordinates by updated the X and Y for the points. Also be sure on the second point to update the angle to match the measured azimuth.
Step 6: The final step is to review your two files now visible in the same view. Make sure the control point location matches between the two files. You can also go in and hide layers as needed on the files to make your line work easier to read for the creation of your project layout points.
